# From Web V1 to V2

**From 31st October 2024, all Chatlayer customers using the Web channel will need to switch to the** [**new web widget, Web V2**](https://docs.chatlayer.ai/channels/all-channels/web/web-v2)**.** This means that Web V1 will be removed from our codebase. ## Switch to Web V2

To switch from Web widget V1 to Web widget V2:

* If you don't have a web channel yet, just [create a web channel](https://docs.chatlayer.ai/channels/all-channels/web/web-v2/..#create-your-web-widget).
* If you already have a web channel, [check if you are on Web V1 or V2](#how-to-know-which-version-of-web-you-have).

Web V1 has the following tabs:

* Config
* Colors

If you're still on the V1 version please switch to Web V2 by doing the following:

1. Open your **Channels** tab.
2. [Add a new **Web** channel](https://docs.chatlayer.ai/channels/all-channels/web/web-v2/..#create-your-web-widget). Since January 2024, all new web channels are Web widget V2.
3. [Configure your channel](https://docs.chatlayer.ai/channels/all-channels/web/web-v2/..#customize-your-web-widget) so that it suits your desired experience.
4. Make sure that you [change your Web widget snippet from your webpage to the new Web widget snippet.](https://docs.chatlayer.ai/channels/all-channels/web/web-v2/..#add-your-web-widget-to-your-website)&#x20;

Web widget V2 has the following tabs:

* Basics
* Appearance
* Installation

If you have this, no need to change anything. You're already on the good version!

## Advantages of Web V2

### More security

The new web widget is more secure for your company and for Chatlayer.

On Web V2, the calls to send and receive messages are now authenticated. When someone talks to the bot, a token is issued for that specific user, then all messages that are exchanged are using that token. This means that even if you knew the user ID, you could not impersonate it.&#x20;

### More flexibility

The Web Widget V2 offers new options like a prechat form, sounds, and many other options and commands.

### Remember users

If the person who builds the bot allows it, your users will be able to see the history of their past conversations with the bot. This means that the bot will remember the user forever, unless your chatbot[ logs out the user](https://docs.chatlayer.ai/channels/all-channels/web/web-v2-methods-and-options#user-authentication-with-externalid).&#x20;

### Optimized for mobile

The new web widget optimizes the performance of your bot on mobile, which wasn't the case with the previous version of our web widget. A great achievement since mobile usage increased significantly in the last few years!

It has a faster loading time with a modern tech stack.

### Market benchmark alignment

The new web widget was made with the most recent benchmark from the market. It's more aligned with messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger.

With this new web widget, your bot will be more consistent across channels, enabling a smoother experience for your customers.
